The 2004 Château Léoville Barton is a classic, Cabernet-driven Saint-Julien that perfectly reflects the gravitas and elegance of its pedigree.
On the nose it offers reserved yet alluring aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherries, gradually giving way to notes of cedar, leather, forest floor and a subtle mineral/earthy under-tone. The palate reveals a dense but refined structure — ripe cassis and dark berry fruits supported by firm, well-integrated tannins, with a graceful acidity that lifts the finish. There’s a cool, saline streak characteristic of great Left-Bank Bordeaux, along with hints of tobacco, graphite and cedar.
This is a wine of depth and finesse rather than flamboyance — its power lies in balance, nuance and the promise of further evolution. At over two decades of age it is now entering a mature and rewarding drinking window, yet retains enough structure to evolve for years to come.
