Hailing from the storied Villa Saletta estate in Tuscany, the 2018 Chianti Superiore offers a compelling example of classic Sangiovese expression with a modern touch. Composed of 96% Sangiovese and small additions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine spends roughly 14 months aging in Slavonian oak casks and second-use barriques.
In the glass it shows a bright ruby-red hue with violet edges. The nose opens with generous floral and red berry aromas—think cherries and violets—interwoven with gentle vanilla oak and a whisper of smoke. On the palate it is fresh yet smooth, supported by supple tannins, balanced acidity and complexity: layers of red fruit, a touch of earth, and a long savory finish.
While enjoyable now, this is a wine that will develop further with another few years’ cellaring.
