The 2019 Marqués de Murrieta Capellanía Blanco Gran Reserva 2019 is a standout white Rioja. It combines elegance, complexity, and ageing potential.
Winemakers craft it entirely from Viura grapes grown in the historic Capellanía vineyard. The vineyard sits at 485 metres on the Ygay Estate and dates back to 1945.
The wine spends 23 months in new French oak barrels. It then rests for 13 months in concrete vats. This careful ageing builds depth, texture, and character.
The nose shows white stone fruit, toasted almonds, and delicate floral notes. The palate feels full-bodied and creamy, yet bright and fresh. Lively acidity supports a long, mineral-driven finish.
Critics praise the wine, including a 96-point score from James Suckling. It drinks beautifully now and will reward cellaring for the next decade.
